Daily Flavors

While we don’t have a set “Flavor Schedule”, we do start each day with the following flavors.

Special Orders dictate the rest of our flavor selection of the day.

Ordering. Allergens. Donations.

How It Works….

Our smallest batch yields about 3 dozen. This means that in order to make one vanilla cupcake, we have to make about 36 vanilla cupcakes.

Each day we start with our Daily Flavors: Almond Happy, Classic Chocolate, Happy Birthday, Monster, Oh Monster Dough, Oh So Dough, Red Velvet and Vanilla.

All other flavors are determined by primarily by Special Orders. To place a Special Order, the order must be placed (and paid for) by noon the day before. There is a requirement of 2 dozen per flavor, if it is not a Daily Flavor.

We bake fresh every day. We don’t use a box mix. We use local products and packaging.
Our cupcakes are $42/dozen.

Orders are done via phone. Please call us to place your special order: (319) 423-9943

Events

We love being included in your special days. Whether it’s a big wedding event or a small streamin’ party…we’re there!

More cupcakes (or additional flavors) doesn’t mean less work or product for us. Unfortunately we do not offer discounts for “large orders”. For similar reasons, we do not offer tastings.

Generally speaking, we would request that you contact us to place your order as soon as you know you’d like to order from us. We don’t want any conflicts or supply chain issues preventing us from helping you. Flavors and quantities can be adjusted before the actual event, we just like to get an idea of what’s needed.

Allergens

About the only thing we can’t do is, “Soy Free”. We don’t add High Fructose Corn Syrup, though we do use products that contain it. We can do Gluten Free, Vegan, Egg Free, Nut Free….however.

We use the same baking space for all our cupcakes. We do not have a dedicated allergy free space. We always sanitize surfaces, and reset, between batches. Even when doing back-to-back batches of the same flavor. When ordering “Allergy Friendly” cupcakes, please keep in mind your own tolerances.

Donations

Due to existing commitments we are not accepting any new donation requests at this time. We regularly donate to local charities, shelters, organizations and fundraisers through gift cards, product, or even just randomly dropping off six packs and smiles.

About

Teresa started baking cupcakes as a young teenager in a foster home. Like most teens, she complained about being bored one day when her foster mom handed her a family recipe box. Teresa discovered the cupcake recipe, and has baking it since.

After much persuasion from friends and family Teresa took cupcakes for the first time to the Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmer’s Market in 2009. In 2011 That One Cupcake Place became the official name.

Spring 2012: A friend told Teresa about the NewBo City Market. After applying, presenting, and taking samples Teresa was chosen as a full time, permanent vendor. On October 27th of 2012 the market was unveiled and 20,000 people came through the doors that weekend. It didn’t take long to figure out the 200 square foot booth wasn’t enough. Regrettably there was no way Teresa could keep up with demand and do the Downtown Farmer’s Market, so it had to be put on hold for That One Cupcake Place.

January of 2013: The Hiawatha lease was signed. It took a while to get things just right. There were delays, contractor disputes, and oven drama. Finally on November 10th of 2014 the doors were opened. In April of 2015 Sundays were added to Hiawatha, and it’s been open 7 days a week at 10AM since (forgiving holidays and extreme snow days).

That One Cupcake Place made a triumphant return to the Downtown Farmer’s Market in 2015, and even participated in the first ever Market After Dark.

August 1st 2018: That One Cupcake Place left NewBo City Market to focus on the growing Hiawatha location.

To this day…. We still hand scoop every batch. We don’t use box mixes. Nothing is ever frozen. We use a local, amazing dairy…Hansen’s Dairy. We even sell their ice cream, milk and butter in our Hiawatha store. Our boxes are from a local, Iowa business. Our stickers are from a local, Iowa business. We use Roaster’s coffee in our cupcakes and for sale in our store. Check us out, and taste why we’re different.
